Report to Parents on effectiveness of SEN policy

Children who require learning support will be catered for within their own classes or in small groups withdrawn from the class. We will always consult with parents where we think a child needs additional support. We have 10 teaching assistants who work closely with the class teachers.

There are 57 pupils with special needs, 3 of whom have a Statement of Special Educational Needs.

The co-ordinator, class teachers and classroom support assistants carefully monitor pupils’ progress. The co-ordinator and class teachers develop an Individual Education Plan (IEP), which is reviewed each term. The Educational Psychologist, Learning Support Advisory Teacher and the LA Behaviour Support team also play an important role monitoring the targets set in pupils IEPs. Rigorous monitoring therefore ensures that the pupils’ needs are fully met and that all pupils have access to their full curriculum entitlement.

Special Needs and Disabilities

Pupils with a physical impairment have attended our school and we have encouraged care and concern amongst the children in school. Access for the disabled is under review. We have wheelchair access via a lift and toilet facilities for the disabled. The help of appropriate support services is obtained to meet specific needs. Special arrangements are made as and when necessary.

More Able Pupils

Members of staff are responsible for identifying exceptionally able children and setting work to meet these children’s needs. Other agencies may be called to assist.

There is an Able, Gifted and Talented register and an after-school ICT club. French lessons for Year 1 and Year 3 children continue throughout the year for half an hour per week and we intend to extend this provision to Year 4 in September. We have endeavoured to extend our provision for children by encouraging instrumental tuition through the Shropshire Music Service.
